Ferrari blew off a golden chance to get a 1-2 finish in Hungary and after getting battered with criticism for their outing, Jeremy Clarkson has also joined the bandwagon and has sarcastically taken a dig at the team strategists.

Ferrari this season has been doing favors for Red Bull left and right and Hungary was another example where the Maranello-based team just wasn’t able to resist handing their main rivals another decent chunk of valuable points.

Clarkson is extremely disappointed with the Italian team and while discussing its blunder said, “As the abuse is no longer allowed when we speak about F1, I’m forced to say Ferrari’s strategists are brilliant.”

Ferrari in the last few races has come under heavy criticism for the weird decision-making that the team has done in terms of strategy and this has been one of the reasons why the team after 13 rounds is closer to Mercedes as compared to Red Bull.

Mercedes has been putting in performances race and race and are now only 30 points behind Ferrari in the Constructors Championship. This stat is baffling if one considers the superior package that Ferrari has got this season.

Ferrari’s strategy error in Hungary cost Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz a potential podium finish

The Italian team was very much in the running for a podium finish with both its cars until the midway point of the race, but the team once again made a strategic error that cost them dearly in the end.

All the bad shenanigans at Ferrari started when the team missed the undercut opportunity with Carlos Sainz and then brought Charles Leclerc into the pits on lap 41 to put him on a set of hard compounds that clearly did not work at the Hungaroring.

This was a huge mistake as, before them, the Alpine duo of Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso was put on the hard tire, and immediately after, they were not able to generate enough heat into the tires and fell down the gird.

This should have been warning enough for the Maranello-based team but they for some reason completely ignored the two Alpine’s struggles and put Leclerc on the same tire.

What happened afterward was there for everyone to see and it turned out to be a painful watch for all the Tifosi supporters. After Hungary, the gap has further widened in both the Championships and the only good thing that has happened is that F1 is going into a month-long break and this should enable the Italian team to dwell on the mistakes that they have done so far in the season.
