In the last two decades, the popularity of Formula 1 has increased manifolds and currently, the pinnacle of motorsports enjoys millions of fans from all corners of the world who take interest in the Grands Prix, the drivers, and the other aspects which are found in F1. While the common people mostly had the perception of the franchise as an exclusive sport only accessible to the European elite, that has changed now. When Bernie Ecclestone sold his ownership of F1, the Liberty Media acquired the rights for it and they decided to give a complete makeover to the racing franchise and make it more relevant to the mass.
Now, it is quite apparent that the Liberty Media’s vision for Formula 1 has been realised as the Grands Prix under it regularly host a huge number of people, and the Austin GP and the Miami GP even made it to the list of StubHub’s top 10 most in-demand global sport experiences in 2022. Thus, it can be said that Formula 1 is a household name for all motorsport fans in the world, and in order to spread the message about the racing series ever farther, the FIA have come up with a unique idea.
The FIA are in charge of Formula 1, and they make the rules regarding the races. According to the reports, the FIA are now looking to make sure that the name of F1 goes down in history, and thus they have decided to make an e-library with all of the FIA archives which will be accessible to the interested people. This way, more and more people will come to know about the nuances of Formula 1 and it will build an interest in them.
The FIA will celebrate their 120th anniversary in a very special way
As the fans are currently waiting for the 2023 Formula 1 season to start off, the FIA members are preparing for the grand celebration of 120 years of their organization. And in order to commemorate the event, they have devised a plan that will immortalise Formula 1 forever. The FIA are going to digitise their archives and upload them on an e-library, which will be publicly accessible by 2024.
Speaking on this new initiative, FIA President Mohammed bin Sulayem said, “I know that it will be a valuable resource for our staff, our Member Clubs, academics, journalists, researchers and Motor Sport enthusiasts. By offering easy access to historic Motor Sport and Mobility documents, the e-library will contribute to our key Manifesto objective to make the FIA a knowledge-led federation.“
A beta version of the planned e-library was launched on January 4, at the FIA Annual General Assembly in Bologna, Italy. The FIA have encouraged their member clubs to participate in the beta testing of the e-library to provide their valuable feedback, which will help the creators improve its features.
