“For me that is a bit of a shame”: Max Verstappen on the proposed rule changes

On the Thursday following the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in the Baku City Circuit, the FIA announced that they are going to take measures in order to reduce porpoising after receiving vehement protests against the same from Mercedes. During the course of last week’s race, seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton had complained time and again about the awful bouncing of the car which left his back hurting even after he had climbed out of his cockpit. And thus, the Stuttgart-based team urged the FIA to intervene with this issue and solve it once and for all.
But there are some who feel that the FIA should not change rules based on one team’s complaints when all the other teams have been able to solve the porpoising problems on their own. Reigning World Champion Max Verstappen is one of them. In his opinion, it is Mercedes’ fault that they are still not able to fix this trouble and the FIA should not change an entire regulation because of this.
Max Verstappen believes changing the rules by the FIA is an unnecessary step
When the FIA announced that they will look up some measures to reduce the porpoising issues that keep plaguing some cars like those of Mercedes, Red Bull was quick to denounce this judgement. They know that if Mercedes is able to get over this porpoising problem, they will become more competitive in the upcoming races and that is a matter of concern for the Milton-Keynnes-based team.
When current Championship leader and Red Bull recruit Max Verstappen was asked for his opinion on the FIA’s declaration regarding the reduction in porpoising, Max Verstappen said, “I think it’s a bit disappointing that again there is a rule change mid-season, I would say. It’s not even about affecting us more or less than other teams, but it shouldn’t be that one team is complaining a lot and suddenly then they change the regs around it.”
While the Formula 1 Championship seems to be completely in Red Bull’s ballpark because of Mercedes’ slow pace and Ferrari’s reliability problems, the news that the FIA is going to let the teams adjust their car heights to reduce porpoising comes as a surprise. While Max Verstappen is leading the standings now, it might not be too long before he is faced with his former rival Lewis Hamilton once again. This might make some changes to the course of the Championship now, and it remains to be seen which team has the last laugh in the end.
