Former British Racer, now turned an F1 pundit praises Carlos Sainz’s defensive driving following the Singapore GP win. The Spaniard’s tactical prowess was on display at the Marina Bay Street Circuit as he defended against the charging Mercedes duo and Lando Norris’s McLaren, emerging as the victor in his Scarlet Ferrari. Davidson cites the last two races and hails Carlos to be the best defender in Formula 1.

“Carlos has definitely proven in the last two Grands Prix that his defensive skills are… I think they’re the best out there, I really do,” Davidson told the Sky Sports F1 podcast. The pundit points out Sainz’s masterful defense against his teammate, Charles Leclerc, at the Italian GP. The Ferrari duo battled it out for the last place on the podium at Monza.

Davidson’s claim ranks Carlos Sainz’s defensive skills above those of the World Champions, Hamilton and Verstappen, in terms of defensive driving. He adds, “He’s so wise in where he places the car, he can understand what’s going on behind him so well.”

‘Not Charles Leclerc, but Carlos Sainz is the leader at Ferrari’ – says Dutch Commentator

Dutch commentator Allard Kalff claims Carlos Sainz can be a much better lead driver at Ferrari. Kalff recently told Motorsport.com, “I think Carlos Sainz can be more of a team leader than Charles Leclerc. The way Sainz talks on the radio, the way he takes matters into his own hands. I think the fact that he’s winning now is fantastic and that he’s doing it this way is equally fantastic.”

The commentator cites the Singapore GP and how Sainz managed the pace at the front and made decisions himself to secure a stunning Grand Prix Victory. Kalff’s remarks suggest that Charles Leclerc hasn’t been able to lead the way when Ferrari have needed him to.

The Tifosi often helm Charles as their Golden Boy. Leclerc is usually portrayed as the main prospect at Ferrari. But with Sainz besting him of late, debates about who deserves to be Number 1 at Ferrari have started arriving.
