Former FIA Race Director Michael Masi‘s career has been on an interesting course ever since the Australian made his debatable decision at the 2021 F1 Season Finale at Abu Dhabi which, according to many people, enabled Max Verstappen to gain an advantage over Lewis Hamilton and ultimately win his first World Championship title. While Michael Masi had to resign from his post as his ruling as an FIA executive ignited numerous protests from prominent teams like Mercedes, there was word that Masi might be reinstated by Mohammed Bin Sulayem, the President of the F1 authoritative committee.

Most of the F1 followers had criticised Bin Sulayem for speaking in favor of Michael Masi, and then it was reported that the former Race Director had retired from his role in the FIA to relocate to Australia where he has his own family. Following that news, the newest update on the controversial former FIA executive is that he has joined the Supercars Commission in Australia as their new Chairman.

Michael Masi is taking over the duties of the Chairman from Neil Crompton, who exited the panel at the end of June. If this works out, then it will be the first time that Masi is at the helm of a race, ever since that fateful season finale at Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi.

Although reports have gone viral about Michael Masi joining the Supercar squad, nothing has been officially confirmed as of yet. According to various sources, it has come to light that Supercars will most probably have the proposal of Michael Masi‘s appointment approved by the team owners at Sandown in only a few more weeks.

Michael Masi has already got a brilliant resume that boasts some previous experience in Supercars, as he was the deputy race director at Motorsport Australia before shifting to the FIA in 2018. Masi had joined the FIA as deputy to the-then Race Director Charles Whiting. One a year later, Masi took up Whiting’s role as the latter passed away tragically. Following the 2021 Abu Dhabi race, Masi was experiencing some downs in the road, but now he believes his new role at Supercars Commission will bring him loads of luck.
