The vacant seat at Williams for 2024 is been targeted by Mick Schumacher as he looks to return to Formula 1. But Nico Rosberg commented on how James Vowles, the Team Principal at Williams, might prefer extending Logan Sargeant’s current contract with the team over getting Schumacher onboard.
Sargeant, currently the only American driver in F1, seems to have brought in a lot of revenue for Williams due to the increasing popularity of our sport in the United States. With the presence of 3 American GPs in the calendar, the sponsorships alone seem quite enticing. The former World Champion also pointed out how Logan Sargeant belongs to a wealthy family, saying, “I hear that Logan Sargeant brings in some money”.
“Vowles is a very numbers-focused person,” added Rosberg. “When we look at Mick’s performance at the end of his previous F1 stint with Haas over the season compared to Magnussen, it wasn’t exactly outstanding. So James Vowles is a bit unsure at the moment.”
Mick Schumacher had amassed only 12 points in the two years he spent at Haas, failing to score a single point in 2021 and coming out second best to his teammate – Kevin Magnussen. Sargeant also has failed to land himself a top 10 finish till now. But Nico Rosberg says, Vowles will take the revenue that the drivers earn the team alongside their driving abilities, which on-paper, don’t favour Schumacher much.

Nico Rosberg thinks Lewis Hamilton has a ‘point’ in his ‘stronger teammates’ debate with Max Verstappen
Hamilton recently claimed that his former teammates over the years were a stronger bunch than Verstappen’s. Rosberg comments on Hamilton’s comments calling them strange but claiming that Lewis does have a point.“It’s strange that Lewis talks about that: ‘my team-mates were better’,” Rosberg said on Sky TV. “Where did that come from? A bit strange. But I do think he has a point.”
Rosberg remains to be the only teammate to beat Lewis Hamilton and his Mercedes to the World Championship during the famous 2016 season. He points out how Hamilton has had 3 World Champions as teammates, “He had three World Champions as team-mates. That says a lot, doesn’t it? So I do think it’s correct.”
As of now, Lewis Hamilton has shown a spark of pace with his Mercedes W14 as he has scored some podiums. But Max Verstappen’s blistering speed seems to have confirmed his third World Championship win at the end of this year. Now, it remains to be seen how Red Bull spends their resources on planning for the next season since some rule changes are presumably underway for the F1 2024 Championship.
