Red Bull is constantly under target for their alleged favoritism towards Max Verstappen over Sergio Perez. Ferrari also caught some strays, with them being accused of favoring Charles Leclerc more than Carlos Sainz, which has reportedly caused the Spaniard to look elsewhere at the end of his contract. Ferrari chief Fred Vasseur recently slated these accusations as he stated that both Sainz and Leclerc have the same position in Ferrari.

With a 125-point gap between the duo, it is no surprise that Red Bull would prefer Max Verstappen over Perez. Seeing how dominant Verstappen can be in a one-on-one situation with Perez, given that they both are in the same car, many have questioned Red Bull’s loyalty towards the Mexican. Red Bull was most recently the target of Fred Vasseur, who claimed that there is a clear demarcation between the two drivers at Milton-Keynes when he was asked whether he prefers Charles Leclerc over Sainz.

“Your question assumes Charles is number one, but that’s not the case. I started this job 25 years ago thinking that two drivers should be given the same support, and I have no intention of changing. All the teams move in this way, with the exception of Red Bull with Verstappen and Perez,” Vasseur is quoted by crash.net.

Fred Vasseur joined Ferrari in January this year when he replaced Mattia Binotto. Ferrari has shown a drop in their performances from last year, currently being fourth in the WDC standings. Vasseur was recently asked whether he would adopt the ‘iron-fist’ approach, which was used by his predecessor Jean Todt.

Vasseur claimed that he would never take this approach. He believes that every person’s psychology is different and that they need to be a lot more inclusive in order to make a winning car. Vasseur stated that there are no ‘winning’ recipes in F1.

“Iron fist is not my way, and times have changed. People’s psychological approach is different, we need a more inclusive approach that makes everyone participate in a winning project,” said Vasseur.

Ferrari are currently fourth in the constructors’ standings. With Leclerc’s and Sainz’s contracts running out at the end of 2024, the team will be looking to speed up the contract renewal process.
