Scuderia Ferrari had a solid start to the 2024 season. After trailing behind Max Verstappen and Red Bull in the first two races, Carlos Sainz claimed victory at the Australian GP. Maranello seemed to have bridged the gap to the reigning world champions this season. However, Ferrari Team Principal Fred Vasseur admitted that things might not be as easy for the Italian team this weekend in Suzuka.
Vasseur claimed that the Scuderia was enthusiastic heading into the Japanese GP after its victory at Albert Park. The Frenchman reckoned that Carlos Sainz‘s win has pushed the entire team to grab more victories this year. However, Fred Vasseur highlighted that the iconic Suzuka circuit would be demanding on both the cars and the drivers.
We go to Japan on the wave of enthusiasm for the brace achieved in Australia. The unique sensations related to victory push us to commit ourselves even more to try to savor them as soon as possible.Fred Vasseur said, as reported by FormulaPassion.it
The Ferrari team boss was confident that the Scuderia had a good package for this race. However, Ferrari would need to be perfect throughout the weekend to defeat Max Verstappen this weekend. Red Bull are expected to bring a major upgrade package to Japan which could make things difficult for Maranello in the upcoming race.
We believe we have a competitive package but we also know that to be able to beat our rivals you have to be perfect.Fred Vasseur explained
Ferrari ready to ‘play its cards’ in its fight with Max Verstappen
Weather has always played a role at the Japanese GP. Heavy rain could have a massive impact on the race. Fred Vasseur emphasized that this could have a bigger impact this season as the race will be held in spring for the first time. Changeable conditions could create an opportunity for teams to try and capitalize on a clever race strategy.
As always in Japan, and even more this year since we run to Suzuka for the first time in early spring, weather conditions could make a differenceFred Vasseur stated
Nevertheless, Vasseur reckoned that Ferrari was well prepared for the challenge this weekend. The Ferrari team boss highlighted that Maranello would play its cards right to potentially defeat Max Verstappen for a second race in a row.
We have prepared well at home and are determined to play our cards
Fred Vasseur concluded
The Japanese GP could be an exciting race. Max Verstappen and Red Bull aim to bounce back after a dismal outing last race when the Dutchman was forced to retire. On the other hand, Fred Vasseur’s squad looks to gain momentum with another race victory. As such, fans could potentially see a close fight at Suzuka and the rest of the season.
