Fred Vasseur believed that the only way to challenge Max Verstappen was by continuing car development.

Max Verstappen has annihilated Formula 1 this season. The Dutch driver has taken a total of 9 race wins out of 11 races so far. With a streak of 7 victories. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff believed that Verstappen’s domination seemed like a Formula 1 car competing against a grid full of Formula 2 machinery. Now, Ferrari Team Principal Fred Vasseur has dismissed such claims.
Vasseur joked that the Mercedes Team Principal should first be given an F2 car before making such a comparison. He said, “Give him an F2 car and he will see!” Moreover, the Frenchman made a comparison between Verstappen’s current dominance to the period of unprecedented success achieved by the Silver Arrows during the turbo hybrid era. As the German team won seven consecutive Constructors’ titles.
Fred Vasseur continued, “[Red Bull] are in front but I think the feeling is probably the same when Mercedes was in front a couple of years ago, and I won’t go on this field.” The Ferrari boss reckoned that instead of stating such assumptions, it would be better if teams focused on developing their cars in a bid to catch up with the Milton Keynes-based team.
The 55-year-old stated, “I think honestly that the most important thing is to be focused on yourself to try and get the best from what we have.”

Max Verstappen’s F1 domination continues as Red Bull breaks a historic record

The Milton Keynes-based team created history at the Hungarian GP. Max Verstappen brought home the team’s twelfth consecutive race win. This makes Red Bull the first F1 team to achieve this massive feat after toppling McLaren’s record of 19 straight wins from 1989. Additionally, Verstappen is on course to potentially win the most races in a row for a driver in F1 history.
The Dutch driver has won seven back-to-back races this season. This puts the two-time world champion just two victories away from matching Sebastian Vettel‘s record of 9 straight wins in 2013. Certainly, this seems a possibility for now as rivals have failed to give a fight to Verstappen this season. The 25-year-old won the Hungarian GP with a gap of over half a minute to second place.
Thus, Fred Vasseur has straightaway dismissed Toto Wolff’s claim of Max Verstappen competing against an F2 grid this season. The Frenchman insisted that all teams must continue on car development and avoid making mistakes to potentially challenge Red Bull in the future. Although, for now, it seems that Verstappen is prepared for another victory at the Belgian GP.
