Future of Las Vegas GP is THREATENED as contractors protest no official three-year deal was ever signed for the race

Formula 1 hosted the Las Vegas Grand Prix last year in the entertainment capital of the world. F1 and Formula One Management received a lot of backlash for focusing on a few countries and were accused of turning the sport into a show. However, the contractors of the race have claimed that no three-year deal was ever signed. Alighting the rumours of the cancellation of the race.
Last year, many drivers including Max Verstappen claimed that such a race is turning the sport into a show. The race turned out to be a good one for the sporting spectacle and their gamble worked out. Still, the area’s commissioner Tick Segerblom has cleared the air around the deal and left the world to speculate.
It turns out that we never signed a contract — that was all with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. So everybody keeps saying that we’ve got three years. We never committed to three years, to my knowledge.Tick Segerblom said as reported by gpblog.com.
With the statement of Clark County’s commissioner, the rumours of the race getting cancelled this year are on a high. This is the second time that F1 has decided to race in the gambling capital of the world and failed miserably the first time back in the 1980s. F1 would be keen on finalising the contracts with the city and not to repeat the same fate as earlier.
What were the opinions of the drivers on the Las Vegas GP?
Many drivers were not in favour of the race to go ahead and blamed the FOM for being money-centred. However, Lewis Hamilton and several other drivers gave a positive outlook on the race after its inauguration in 2023.
This has provided a better race than most of the tracks we go to. Hats off to the people who ran the show. I cannot wait to come back and hopefully have a better race next year. I am really grateful to Vegas for having us.Lewis Hamilton said as reported by theguardian.com.
The Briton seemed to be one of the people who were in favour of the race. While taking a dig at the reigning champion, he claimed that a lot of negatives were around the race but the race proved that it deserves to be on the calendar.
Despite all of this, F1 would be working day and night to resolve this issue as last year’s race was a big marketing campaign for the sport. We will soon get to know about the status of the GP as many people are backing the race to be held again following its success last year.
