George Russell the Mercedes F1 driver, started the ongoing Dutch GP from P3 on the grid but is currently running out of the points scoring positions. As the lights went out Russell got off to a bad start and immediately found himself in a spot of bother and quite quickly lost several positions.
Moreover, while trying to recover a few positions, the Mercedes pit wall asked him to come into the pits to put on a set of intermediate tires instead of hards. From then on, George Russell has been fighting a lost battle in the ongoing 2023 Dutch GP. Because of all the early chaos, the Brit, at best, could score a top-10 finish.
When the 25-year-old realized that he was out of contention for a podium place he got onto his team radio and let his frustration known, he said, “I was forecast for a podium? ****, how did we mess this up?.” Looking at his reaction, it is pretty clear that he is extremely disappointed with how the ongoing race has so far panned out for him.
George Russell did amazingly well during yesterday’s qualifying session to land his W14 in the third slot ahead of the lights of Fernando Alonso and Sergio Perez. He was able to put his car through the absolute wringer, and to have found himself out of contention during the ongoing race has taken a big toll on him.
George Russell has some ground to make in the 2023 F1 season
The first leg of the ongoing F1 season was not the kindest for George Russell. He was seen struggling with his car on several occasions, and because of that, he is currently behind his teammate, Lewis Hamilton, in the Drivers Championship. The latter has so far managed 148 points in comparison to Russell’s 99.
George Russell is desperate to close down the lost gap to his teammate during the second leg, but his start of the same could have gone a lot better considering his condition in the ongoing Dutch GP. The Brtish starlet was able to get the better of his teammate last year and would ideally want a repeat of the same.
While doing something extraordinary during the Dutch GP is now pretty much out of the question for George Russell, he has still got nine races left where he can look to amass a few podiums and hopefully close down the current gap to his 7-time F1 World Champion teammate, Lewis Hamilton.
