Lewis Hamilton, the former seven-time world champion, has brought about a tsunami of sorts by joining the Maranello-based Ferrari F1 team. He will be seen driving for them from 2025 onwards and while several pundits are looking at this move with immense positivity, former team owner, Giancarlo Minardi, believes that Ferrari made a mistake by signing Hamiton.
Giancarlo Minardi is of the opinion that Fred Vasseur and Co. should have stuck with Carlos Sainz and given him a contract extension. He views the 2025 Lewis Hamilton move as nothing more than a huge marketing stunt.
While shedding light on the same in detail in a conversation with Leo Turrini for Quotidiano. Minardi said, as reported by Soymotor:
If we talk about marketing, it is a brilliant operation, so congratulations to John Elkann. I understand the reasons, which I will define as commercial, for the great agreement between the seven-time world champion and Ferrari. It is a meeting between myth and legend. But, speaking only of motorsport, I would not have chosen someone like Hamilton. And, in any case "I would have stayed with Sainz.
Looking at the strong response of the 76-year-old, it is quite clear that he is not even a tiny bit pleased with Ferrari bringing on-board Lewis Hamilton. Moreover, has also indicated that there are no guarantees that the Brit would do well alongside Charles Leclerc.
Lewis Hamilton will have several eyes on him during the 2024 F1 season
While Lewis Hamilton has made a sensational move to Ferrari, there is still a whole season left until that actually becomes a reality. The 2024 F1 season is less than a month away and ahead of it, the hype has already started to build around how Hamilton would act when he sees the Ferrari cars in his vicinity.
The 39-year-old has a well-known reputation for not backing down during serious race situations and considering this, fireworks will be expected. Especially when he gets into an on-track tussle with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc.
It’s been a crazy few days which have been filled with a whole range of emotions.
