Guenther Steiner reveals Mick Schumacher has to ‘score more points’ to secure seat for 2023
Guenther and Mick
Guenther Steiner the Haas Team principal has made known the only criteria that the young Mick Schumacher has to fulfill in order to guarantee a seat on the Haas team for next year.
Mick Schumacher is in his second season with the American team and at the moment does not have a contract in place for the 2023 season of the sport.
However, after going through a pretty tough scoreless first season with the team, the 23-year-old has finally started to come into his own and is producing good results.
Mick opened his points account in F1 during the British Grand Prix where he was able to finish P8 and from there, was able to follow it up with an impressive P6 finish at the Red Bull ring.
His improved performances have caught the eyes of teams up and down the paddock and at one moment, he was in contention for the Aston Martin seat that was eventually offered to Fernando Alonso.
Guenther Steiner’s take on the upsurge in the performances of Mick Schumacher
As the Team principal of Haas, Guenther Steiner has been closely able to follow the progress of the young German and was recently asked whether he has seen any change in him since he opened his account, and as a response, Guenther said, “No, I would say it started in Canada.”
“He was, in my opinion, a bit more chilled out, even if he didn’t score points there. I don’t know why that happened. I have no idea. Don’t ask me why.”
“I just felt like he was a little bit more relaxed and then the race after the points came. Maybe it’s got to do with that one. It’s difficult to say with these guys, they have been racing for so long, they’ve got poker faces [masking] what they play and what they think.”
Guenther Steiner is not exactly sure what changed in Mick Schumacher that brought a sudden improvement in performances but is pleased with how things are going for him and the team.
Steiner has further blatantly revealed that in order for the 23-year-old to have a seat on the team for next year, he has to keep scoring more points.
Haas is not the only team that Schumacher is linked to at the moment, it is believed that he is being seen as a potential candidate to replace Fernando Alonso on the Alpine F1 team for 2023. Considering everything, where do you see Mick doing his trade next season?
