At 58 years old, Guenther Steiner has spent the better part of his lifetime in Formula One, observing the various racing greats take part in the elite league of motorsports. And among the best of the best whom Steiner has seen in action, the Italian believes that Fernando Alonso deserves special mention. Thus, while talking about his book ‘Survive to Drive’, wittily named in accordance with the popular Netflix series ‘Drive to Survive’, Guenther Steiner gushed about Fernando Alonso’s massive rise in the current F1 2023 season.

In 2005 and 2006, Fernando Alonso got his two World Championship titles, and in 2018, he exited F1 in search of laurels from other racing leagues. The Oviedo native then won some titles in World Endurance Championship and IndyCar as well, and made a return to the king class of motorsports in 2021 with Alpine. Now at Aston Martin, filling the shoes of Sebastian Vettel, he has already attained multiple podium victories consistently and has vowed to earn top 3 finishes at all the remaining races of this year after failing to do so at the Spanish GP a week ago.

For taking risks in F1, changing teams at 41 years of age, and even finding success with the new squad, Guenther Steiner applauded Fernando Alonso. The 58-year-old Haas Boss said, “I tell my drivers that we have to learn from Fernando Alonso. He is older than God and every week, he gives one hundred percent. Fernando could do the race without an engineer or a strategist.”

Formula 1 drivers are the fastest racers in the whole wide world, but even among them, there is a steep competition for being the best. In this difficult sport, Steiner believes Fernando Alonso has managed to shine bright on more than one occasions because of his versatility. Guenther Steiner said, “He’s a great driver. But not only because of the talent, but because in the race he can deal with any circumstance. Manage the wheels, know what other drivers are doing. He sees things that others don’t.”

While Fernando Alonso has almost single-handedly made sure that Aston Martin capture the second spot on the World Constructors’ Championship, his teammate Lance Stroll has proven to be a liability for the Silverstone outfit. While the pair are gearing up for Stroll’s home race in Montreal, Canada at the moment, fans have called for AMR to relieve Stroll of his duties to take up someone more talented and more deserving. Now, it remains to be seen if Lawrence Stroll does indeed get his son to quit their team to make way for his ambitions or if he puts family above all else.
