“Have reached seven races without my being able to get a victory”: George Russell talks about not yet winning a Grand Prix in his Mercedes

George Russell joining the Mercedes F1 team was one of the biggest news at the end of last season as the young British prodigy had been waiting on the sidelines for a long time before it seemed that he finally got his shot to show what he can do in a car that can challenge for wins and championships.
Unfortunately, however, that is not how things turned out for young George Russell. With the 2022 Formula One season bringing with it a plethora of regulation changes, the teams had to build new cars from scratch. Red Bull and Ferrari made the best use of this opportunity and built cars that are regularly fighting for wins. Mercedes however have fallen behind and are left picking up the scraps behind Ferrari and Red Bull.
George Russell currently finds himself in the fourth place in the Driver’s Championship standings – 41 points behind current championship leader and reigning world champion Max Verstappen. Russell has only managed to somehow reach the third place of the podium twice this season.

George Russell believes he has not achieved the results that he wanted to with Mercedes
After seven races, Mercedes have zero wins to their name. George Russell himself confessed that it would have been a surprise if he was told before the season that he wouldn’t be able to get a win even after seven races.
“I think that if before the season they had told me that we would have reached seven races without my being able to get a victory, of course I would have been very disappointed.“, said George Russell.
He further continued, “In reality, however, if I look at our level of performance, I am very satisfied with my performance, because more than that just could not be done . I have always managed to optimize every situation. We have a lot of room for improvement and I want to fight for the championship, even if we have to compete with teams like Red Bull and Ferrari and very strong drivers like Verstappen and Leclerc.”
George has made more out of the car than Lewis Hamilton, his teammate has been able to. George Russell has finished ahead of Hamilton in all the races. However, if he wants to challenge for wins, mercedes have to step up their game. Whether they will be able to do it, only time will tell.
