“He called on the FIA to apply the rules to the letter,” William Buxton denounces the hypocritic and two faced behavior of Lewis Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton and William Buxton
Lewis Hamilton has been public criticized the decision of the FIA over the jewelry clampdown and even wore more jewelry than usual at the Miami GP to rebel against the rule. But, the FIA has also stood firm in their stance of doing everything possible to ensure proper safety of the drivers. Therefore, it seems like there has been a stand off against the premier institution and one of the greatest drivers of Formula 1.
Things haven’t been going well for Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton on and off the track and this is just adding to the pressure. The seven time world champion is off to one of the worst starts of the season with just one podium to his name. It’s just not the results that are worrying but it’s also the difference in performance between Lewis Hamilton and George Russell. Mercedes prodigy again got the better off the veteran in Miami yet again.
So, the question that arises is whether he should get into a matter as petty as this? We all know that Lewis Hamilton has always been the driver to stand up for the right thing but on the face of it, it’s a safety issue more than anything else. Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton have time and again reminded the FIA to stick to the letter of the law ever since the controversy in Abu Dhabi.

William Buxton criticizes Lewis Hamilton for his stance against the jewelry clampdown
Amid the whole fiasco, William Buxton has voiced his opinion without thinking twice against Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes. Criticizing the antics of Lewis Hamilton, he said, “In full knowledge Hamilton’s fans will disagree, this feels like a strange hill to plant your flag on. Lewis and Merc called on the FIA to apply the rules to the letter. The new RD is doing that.“
“You don’t then get to choose which rules you want to follow. This rule has been around for longer than Lewis has been in F1. It’s not been created just for him.”
“This, and the underwear reg, is about applying the lessons learnt from the Grosjean crash. If he truly believes it to be such a small issue, then why make it such a big one?” as reported by gpblog.
Prima Facie, this definitely looks like both Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff want to put pressure on the FIA to make things work according to them. But, this is definitely not the end of it all as more is to come.
