The start of the 2022 season with new regulations looks going in the way of Red Bull and Ferrari; both teams and their drivers lead the points table, contending and battling each other closely in all of the races. After amazing victories in Saudi Arabia, Imola, Miami, and Spain, Max Verstappen took on the lead of the championship from Charles Leclerc, and the Red Bull duo of Verstappen and Perez together helped the team to also take the lead in the constructor’s championship from Ferrari. Though it all seems to be going their way, this was not the situation at the start of the season.

Max Verstappen had a lot of struggle with the Red Bull’s RB18 and its reliability at the start of the season, and Checo had a little taste of the same. During the Bahrain Grand Prix, Verstappen complained about a power issue on his radio, the team denied anything to be wrong, but soon enough he was seen retiring his car in the pit. Also, during the final lap Sergio’s car had a similar failure which saw him DNFing on the first turn of the final lap. The team had no points in that race. A similar situation was faced by Verstappen in Australia where he retired early due to an engine failure.
Mark Webber states that Verstappen have had his moments
Mark Webber, former driver with Red Bull and Sebastian Vettel’s teammate, has stated that Verstappen had his moments of frustration this season, referring to the events where he faced issues with the reliability of the car.
”Those moments were a big blow to Red Bull,” GPBlog quoted Webber.
“’He (Max) also had some interesting moments. Moments where the frustration came out, but when it matters Red Bull is there. They perform.”
He also stated that the same cannot be seen in Ferrari, as they have had some major blunders with the pit strategy (referring to Monaco), which made them lose points. Red Bull is extensively known for their reaction during a race and their excellent pit strategies.
Red Bull stand on top of the constructor standings with 235 points in their bag, followed by Ferrari with 199 points. In the driver’s championship, Max Verstappen leads with 125 points over Charles Leclerc with 116 points. Sergio Perez stands on 3rd with 110 points.
