“He hasn’t forgotten how to drive,” Christian Horner adamant about Lewis Hamilton’s say in 2022 Championship fight

Christian Horner the Red Bull team Principal has recently made it clear that in his opinion the former 7-time Formula One Champion Lewis Hamilton will “become a factor” in the current season once Mercedes gets a handle on the problems that they are facing.

The silver arrows during the 2022 F1 season have been well off the pace of Red Bull and Ferrari and after Imola’s showing it is not certain that they are the third quickest team on the 2022 grid. Teams like Alpine, and McLaren have shown that they have got pace as well and at the moment, things are not looking good for the Brackle-based Mercedes team.

Mercedes struggled in Imola with Lewis Hamilton, the Brit for the most of the race was stuck in a DRS train behind Pierre Gasly and was not able to make any swooping moves to go past the Frenchman.

Things got worse for Hamilton and Mercedes when Max Verstappen lapped Hamilton under blue flags. That was a painful moment given the history of last season.

Christian Horner while talking about Hamilton’s struggles in Imola said, “He obviously had a horrible weekend but he is still an eight-time world champion… seven-time! I forgot Nico Rosberg won.”

He hasn’t forgotten how to drive in the last four races so at some point they will sort their issues out and he will become a factor but obviously, the young guys are doing a great job.

Christian Horner: Red Bull was not focused on Lewis Hamilton in Imola

Christian Horner via his interview has indicated that he is expecting Lewis Hamilton and Co. to make a strong comeback during the current season and feels “I think Lewis didn’t have a great weekend but we were very much focused on our race and trying to extract the maximum points.”

It was obviously one of those things. At that point, we were looking at the clouds, was the rain going to come in the last part of the race or not, we were more focused on that.”

Horner has stressed that at Imola the rain was a far bigger concern than overtaking Hamilton.

Round 5 of the 2022 Formula One season is going to take the extravaganza to Miami and given it is a new track, everyone is going to have a clean slate and it could prove to be the opportunity where Mercedes would look to capitalise and make a strong statement in Miami.
