“He knows what the people want” – F1 fans react as Valtteri Bottas travels to Melbourne with a mullet to compliment his trip Down Under

Valtteri Bottas gets a mullet in his time in Australia
Valtteri Bottas has reclaimed his freedom in Formula 1 after he jumped ship to Alfa Romeo from the 2022 season. The 33-year-old took the role of leading the Swiss-based team after spending a few years playing second fiddle to Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes. Bottas has grown as a personality this year on and off track, as the Finnish driver now has raced freely for his new team without having the pressure of the Silver Arrows. Now Valtteri seems to spend some leisure time in Australia.
Valtteri Bottas was recently spotted in Melbourne, with the official Australian GP Twitter handle posting the Finn’s arrival. One tweet, sees the Alfa Romeo driver relaxing on a beach, with a surprising change in his hairstyle. The 33-year-old now has a mullet, a style that certainly makes the F1 driver suit his new environment. Bottas also is seen wearing a singlet with a ‘Victoria Bitter’ logo, the initials VB coincidentally are the initials of the Finn as well.
To top it all off, Valtteri is wearing a pair of sunglasses and appears to be loving his time during the winter break. The caption for this picture states, “We are LIVING for VB’s Aussie mullet era, You’re one of us now,” and it stands true, as Bottas’s new style makes him completely seem like an Aussie enjoying the pleasant summers in the southern hemisphere. The 33-year-old also took a trip to Albert Park, the circuit which hosts the Australian Grand Prix. Perhaps Valtteri’s newfound Australian personality will make the fans feel a bit less sad about Daniel Ricciardo‘s exit from F1.
Valtteri Bottas’s Aussie era gets the locals’ approval

Fans on Twitter saw Valtteri Bottas‘s trip as a happy surprise. Most fans loved the new mullet of the Finn and one fan expressed their astonishment and replied, “the hair !?!?!?!?!” While another user commented on the F1 driver’s style being exactly what the Aussies wanted and said, “He knows what people want.” One fan was impressed with Valtteri’s Australian personality and gave their approval, replying with a GIF stating in classic Australian fashion, “Yeah not bad aye”
One user talked about VB being the initials for Victoria Bitter and the Finn as a sign and advocated for Honorary Australian citizenship for Valtteri, replying, “Aussie Valtteri. Loving the singlet too. I guess, with those initials, it was always meant to be #honoraryAussie.” Another fan made an on the Finn’s name and Australia’s short form and commented, “Valtteri Bottaus.” While one user complimented the 33-year-old’s style and stated, “Rocking the Very Best!!”
It seems that Valtteri Bottas has found a perfect way to spend some time in the winter break, taking in the sun in Australia. The Finn had a low-key season in 2022, as the team lost out in the development race to its rivals in the latter half of the year. However, the 33-year-old has laid down the foundation of leading his team where he looks set to be in the long term. With Audi’s arrival in 2026, pressure will be on Bottas’s shoulders to perform at his best levels to convince the German giant to retain the Finn as its lead driver.
