“He really needed to take advantage,” Mika Hakkinen sheds light on Max Verstappen and Red Bull’s sole problem

Mika Hakkinen and Max Verstappen

Mika Hakkinen, former Formula 1 driver and a two-time world champion, saw Max Verstappen and Red Bull increasing their advantage in the championship table. But also points out a major problem affecting the team’s overall dynamics and making them vulnerable at intervals in the season, Reliability issues.

Sergio Perez in lap 8 had to jump out of his car after suffering from gearbox issues, making the Finn see a hole on the Championship shield of the Austrian team. Ferrari has already suffered severely from the engine blowing up in the middle of the race, taking out a bunch of points from their accounts in the last three races.

“The only problem for Red Bull appears to be reliability,” wrote Mika for Unibet. The Red Bull team already suffered 3 blows at the first three races of 2022, giving the rivals an unmatchable  advantage, but later covered all the pieces after winning rest of the 6 out of 6 races

Sergio Perez suffered a DNF in the Canadian GP after his gearbox broke down in Lap 8, which waved a layer of tensed faces in the Red Bull garage for the only RB-18 on the circuit. Max needed a great result considering his rival started from P19, and so did he.

“That must have made the team nervous on a day when Max really needed to take advantage. The great result will have been a relief for them.” said Mika.

Ferrari on the other hand has already suffered severely from the engines blowing in the last three races, almost taking the championship from their hands. Though the Italian powerhouse was the fastest on the Canada Sunday but also the most vulnerable one.

“Not only do Ferrari need to win some races, they also need Max to hit trouble,” Mika concludes.

Ferrari is not 76 points behind Red Bull with Charles 49 points behind Max, things are not the way the Scuderia wanted it to be after a fantastic start to the season.
