“He used to talk to me a lot and then stopped”: Martin Brundle claims Lewis Hamilton does not approach him for interviews anymore

Former racer and celebrated Formula 1 reporter Martin Brundle recently sat down for a conversation with GQ. In the interview, he talked about the experience that he has gathered while speaking to the who’s-who of the sporting world during his time in the F1 paddocks. Then, the 63-year-old Briton, who is also regarded as an F1 pundit, made the bombshell claim that Mercedes racer Lewis Hamilton, who frequently chatted with him earlier, rarely talks to him anymore.
It is a well known fact that it is customary for the SkySports interviewers to ask the drivers to give their takes on the Grand Prix once the race has ended, and the formalities are over. But unlike the other journalists, Martin Brundle hosts a special segment of pre-race grid walks, where he visits the various team garages, and asks some questions related to race preps to the drivers.

Brundle, who came into the sports journalism scene in 2011, said that he often finds it difficult to interview the people who look as if they are bothered by him. He took the example of football legend David Bekham while talking about an uncomfortable interview that he has been in. And then he also said his dynamics with many of the racers have changed over time, and one example for that is Lewis Hamilton, who used to chat with Brundle a lot in the earlier days, but now, he does not come up to the SkySports reporter anymore.

In all his years as an F1 pundit and a sports interviewer, Brundle has struck up a camaraderie with many of the racers whom he talks to regularly during his pre-race grid walks. Speaking on this, he said, “A few of them [the drivers] will just shake their head and then even apologise later on. Or some come up to me in the paddock and go, ‘You haven’t seen me on the grid for ages, just come and talk to me on the grid.”
Martin Brundle went on, “And then others will never talk. Lewis [Hamilton] used to talk to me a lot and then stopped. So, we take it as it comes.”
As it appears, Martin Brundle was last seen in a conversation with Lewis Hamilton during the SkySports special for the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix in Britain in 2020. In 2021, Lewis Hamilton was already embroiled in too much drama due to his rivalry with Max Verstappen, and that could be a reason why he did not want to give an interview to Brundle. In this current season, Lewis’ year has been too upsetting for him to talk about pre-race preps with Martin Brundle.
