Red Bull is reportedly looking at ‘alternatives’ for Sergio Perez and Alex Albon just might be one of those options.

Alex Albon is among the most improved drivers of the 2023 season. He has been solid for Willaims this year, and despite being one of the slowest cars on the grid, he was able to score 23 points. His consistency, tire management, and smart use of Fw45’s pace advantage has been the major reason for his success. He is currently P13 in the standings, while his rookie teammate Logan Sargeant isn’t even close.

The solid performance has made several ex-racers and pundits pin-point him as the best possible replacement for Sergio Perez at Red Bull. He is struggling to finish inside the top-5 in the same races where his teammate Max Verstappen is winning in a dominant fashion. So Albon, who has driven one and half years at Red Bull before Perez replaced him, is the right guy for the second Red Bull seat. Now, Red Bull Chief Advisor Helmut Marko has given his opinion on the possibility of it happening.

In a recent interview with Sky Germany, when asked about a potential return to the team, he admitted that even if Red Bull wants to see him return it is highly unlikely considering Albon has a long-term contract with Williams. He said, as reported by Motorsports.Total.com, “It always starts, but unfortunately Alex has signed a long-term contract and it won’t be on the market until 26.”

Max Verstappen and George Russell praise Alex Albon

Ex-Williams driver George Russell talked about the improvement in Williams. He said that Williams is making huge progress regarding his performance. Russell added that having James Vowles is a ‘positive effect’ for Williams.

The current reigning world champion, Max Verstappen, also appreciated Alex Albon’s performance. Verstappen said that Albon was ‘very impressive’ to see. Verstappen also added that he was happy for Albon and happy to see him up there.

Perez needs to desperately rediscover his form to cling onto the seat at Red Bull for the following years. Albon does have the potential to challenge the front grid if given a competitive car; this was evident by his performance over the weekend at the recent Dutch GP.
