The 2023 Formula One season is almost at its end with the grand finale weekend in Abu Dhabi already here. But the gossips and the controversies in F1 town are not going to go down any time soon. As Lewis Hamilton returns to the fated Yas Marina Circuit where he lost the bout for his record-setting 8th World Championship against Max Verstappen, he has now become involved in some huge drama thanks to Christian Horner. Horner, 50, made a claim earlier this week that he had been approached by Lewis for a seat at Red Bull at the start of 2023 when the Briton’s contract extension with Mercedes was still not finalized.
Since Lewis and Max are rarely known to see eye to eye because of their on-track rivalry, most fans would think it is not possible for Hamilton to leave Mercedes, a team he has been with since 2013, to drive for Red Bull. When the 38-year-old was asked to confirm the truth in Horner’s claims, he brushed the allegations off by terming them as an act to get attention since the Red Bull Boss is ‘lonely’. But now, another important personnel from the Austrian team has backed the claim that Lewis Hamilton did indeed approach Christian Horner for a seat beside Max Verstappen.
The biggest topic of discussion at the pre-race weekend interviews revolved around the fact that Christian Horner was claiming Lewis Hamilton or someone from his side approached Red Bull for a seat. When Helmut Marko was asked to comment on it, he passed the responsibility to prove the fact to Horner as he claimed the Red Bull Boss had “told” him about Lewis’s approach.
I can only say that Christian Horner told me in January about a text message he received from people around Hamilton. It seemed authorized by the driver.Helmut Marko said this about Lewis Hamilton’s proposal to join Red Bull.
Helmut Marko reveals even further details about Lewis Hamilton’s proposal to Red Bull to sign him up
Helmut Marko has never been known to hold back his thoughts whenever he has been interviewed regarding controversial topics. He had even received a lot of flak from the F1 followers for his racial berating of Sergio Perez as he had reasoned that the Mexican was slower than Max Verstappen because of his ethnicity. Now, while speaking on Lewis Hamilton’s alleged wish to join Red Bull, he revealed some facts that were not known at all.

There was talk of a condition that Hamilton set: he only wanted to drive for Red Bull if he got the same material as Max Verstappen. For me at least there was no doubt that the request from the Hamilton side was serious.
In other news, Max Verstappen stole the show during the Abu Dhabi Free Practice session on Friday as he sped past his opponents in the pitlane. When asked about why he decided to race in the pitlane, the nonchalant F1 Champion simply said the other drivers were ‘being to slow’. Max’s attitude has led to some mixed comments from the fans and some have even said they wanted the guts to pull such overtakes at the McDonald’s drive-throughs.
