Red Bull had exonerated Christian Horner last week after an investigation by an external lawyer. However, just after he was deemed acquittal, an anonymous source revealed documents related to Horner’s investigation. Now, Helmut Marko has been called onto the scene as he is suspected to have revealed the Brit’s leaked files.
The feud going on between Jos Verstappen and Horner had swarmed the paddock with shock after documents were revealed to F1 teams and personnel regarding his investigation. Consequently, this raised questions about whether the Red Bull consultant would keep his post on the team.
It is now being speculated that the Austrian was the one to leak the files initially. Marko had earlier commented that he was shocked by the evidence leak as he had never seen the files himself.
However, with this new information regarding the 80-year-old’s role in spreading the evidence, a frenzy may commence within Milton Keynes to find out who has been the real culprit for publishing the details.
Will Max Verstappen stay at Red Bull if Helmut Marko is axed?
Max Verstappen is Red Bulls’ star driver and the Austrian giant would do anything to keep him on the team for the foreseeable future. However, with the recent speculations, Verstappen has decided to stand alongside his senior colleague.
While addressing speculations regarding Marko’s future in the team, the Dutchman stated:
It is very important that he stays. I feel like if such an important pillar falls away, and I have told the team this, that it is not good for my situation as well.Max Verstappen said as reported by The Guardian
The reigning champion made it clear that for him to stay in the team, it is a pre-requisite that Helmut Marko stays on as well. Moreover, Red Bull stakeholders are now in a difficult position after Verstappen’s strong stance.
On the other hand, the 26-year-old would be starting from pole for today’s race at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit. Fans and drivers across the grid would be hoping for a miracle to knab a victory from the triple-champion. Meanwhile, the saga continues for a bit longer within Red Bull with a proper solution to be expected soon.
