Helmut Marko has made it known that he would not mind a boring 2023 F1 season as long as his team is winning.

Helmut Marko, the Red Bull Team adviser, has admitted that he won’t mind if the 2023 F1 season turns out to be a boring watch. He just wants his team to be the one who sets the pace race after race. The Milton-Keynes-based team put in a strong showing in Bahrain, where Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez finished P1 and P2.

While Helmut Marko wants Red Bull to dominate, he feels that there will be races during the season where his team will face serious competition from its rivals. However, at the Bahrain GP, it did not prove to be the case as Max Verstappen disappeared into the distance and won the race by a massive margin of almost 12 seconds.

The first race of the season has made the experts believe that the fans could possibly be in for a boring campaign. When this was proposed to Marko, he added, “I wouldn’t mind if it will be a boring year, but I don’t believe it will be. It’s only one race, and it is a specific race as well because of the [abrasive] Tarmac.”

All races are different. Jeddah [Saudi Arabia, round two] is much faster, for example, and other teams will develop their cars as well. They’re not sleeping.” The 79-year-old has a wealth of experience when it comes to F1 and thus, is not taking anything for granted. He knows every team is doing their work behind the scenes in order to be able to challenge Red Bull.

Helmut Marko has, moreover, specifically talked about Ferrari and said that they would be extremely strong at Monza, but has left an indirect dig by saying, “I think, at the moment, the Ferrari is the fastest engine, but what does the fastest engine help if it’s not reliable, but yes, the top speed is like it is and we have to cope with it. Also, if we come to a circuit like Monza, let’s see what happens.”

Christian Horner agrees with Helmut Marko’s opinion

While Helmut Marko is confident about Red Bull’s dominance this year, so is the Team Principal of the team. Christian Horner has faith in the work that was done in developing the RB19. However, just like Marko, he is not willing to take anything for granted. While sharing his thoughts on his team, he added, “Once we’ve got two or three circuits under our belt, we will get a much better picture of the strengths and weaknesses of our car and our opposition.”

Horner was further asked if Red Bull would be able to win 23 races this year, and while responding, the Brit said, “Twenty-three races is a marathon, and it is about being consistent over the campaign. Bahrain was a great start… But we fully expect our rivals to come back hard in the future races.”

Horner has indicated that it is very unlikely that his team would be able to win all 23 races this year. He is aware of the capabilities of teams like Ferrari, Mercedes, and Aston Martin and thus does not want his team to put their foot off the pedal. He wants Red Bull to be at the top of its game at every race weekend.

The 2023 F1 calendar is one race down, and next up is the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Considering the dominance of Max Verstappen in Bahrain and his last year’s triumph at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, would any of the other team’s drivers be able to put a stop to the Verstappen hype train on the 17th of March?
