“He’s doing a perfect job in the car”: Frederick Vasseur says Zhou Guanyu has ticked all the boxes for being considered for another contract in 2023

Guanyu Zhou

The only young racer who made his Formula 1 debut in this year’s season of Formula 1 2022, Zhou Guanyu, has not yet received any news of a contract extension from his current team–Alfa Romeo. The Chinese racer debuted with Alfa Romeo in the Bahrain Grand Prix and entered the elite club of the F1 racers who have scored points in their first-ever races in the highest league of motorsports. Considering Zhou’s improvement in the team, Alfa Romeo Team Principal Frederick Vasseur has confirmed that they think Zhou has ticked all the boxes for being considered as a potential racer for the team in 2023 as well.

While Guanyu Zhou’s contract renewal with Alfa Romeo for 2023 is not yet confirmed, there is enough reason to believe that a new deal is coming his way after Frederick Vasseur’s recent comments about him. The Team Principal even went ahead to say that Zhou is doing the “perfect job” partnering with Mercedes alumnus Valtteri Bottas for Alfa Romeo.

While eleven races have already been held in this season of F1 2022, the teams are already mulling over whether they want to bring in new racers, or keep the same line-up for the next season of Formula 1. As Alfa Romeo is considering their driver line-up for 2023 F1 season, their Team Principal revealed to the media that they might renew Zhou Guanyu’s contract for next year.

While speaking of Zhou Guanyu, Frederick Vasseur said, “He’s doing a perfect job in the car. We had some targets at the beginning to go into Q2, to score points in the season and so on, and he is ticking all the boxes. We didn’t tell him, but I am more than pleased that he scored points in Montreal because he deserved it. And so far he’s doing a perfect job.”
