“I am a bit pessimistic,” Mattia Binotto seeks clarity from the FIA over delayed budget cap results
Mattia Binotto
Ferrari team boss, Mattia Binotto opens up on the talk of Budget Cap being breached by their direct rivals Red Bull. Before the Singapore GP, rumours spread around suggested Red Bull and Aston Martin have out-capped the limit of their upgrade in the 2021 season. With no information on the verdict yet, Mattia Binotto admits to being perturbed by the delayed date for the outcome of the verdict.
The punishment would vary from monetary penalties to exclusion/disqualification from the championship. Ferrari’s racing director Laurent Mekies suggested a hard punishment, and Binotto agrees. Though he has a bad feeling about the delayed results of the audit: “There are points which the FIA is contesting and the team is trying to defend itself. I think all these decisions, how they have interpreted the regulations, what they have granted – because they will certainly have granted something – it all comes out clearly and transparently.”
The Ferrari team principal also added: “We don’t understand the need to have to change them today beyond the fact that this is the first year with the budget cap. Because with the FIA, there have always been constant exchanges and we have always tried to clarify them. I am a bit pessimistic about this, but first of all, clarity and transparency from the FIA will be important.”
Like Mattia Binotto, Christian Horner also awaiting the audit results
With Red Bull being unbeatable on track, the office track drama seems to have taken a turn on the counts of its rivals. This year’s championship is likely done and dusted. Christian Horner also gives out his feelings for the budget cap and waits for the next date being 10th of October for the clearance of his audit. Red Bull have categorically denied that they have breached the cost cap regulations.
Horner said the team had been hoping for the certificates to arrive on the scheduled date. “We were expecting the certificates as well on Wednesday, hoping for them on Wednesday, but that’s obviously been delayed for all of the teams.”
The team are just waiting to see the results, whatever they may be, he concluded, as per Motorsport.com: “But again, we feel that we’ve absolutely complied with the cost cap, with the regulations. We’re happy with our submission, and await to hear what the feedback is.”
As the Japanese GP is under play, Max Verstappen has taken the pole and leads his way from Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. The Dutchman has a very real chance of being crowned a two-time world champion this Sunday: He just needs to win the race with the fastest lap.
