Carlos Sainz can consider himself pretty lucky and unlucky at the same time. Ferrari looked like they had the fastest car and were looking set to lock the top 2 positions on the grid. With Charles Leclerc already past Max Verstappen, it was Carlos Sainz’s turn to get past the Dutchman, who was definitely struggling on his tyres and was clocking slower lap times due to that problem.

It was surprising to see the amount of degradation on the Red Bull after what he had seen during the sprint. Max Verstappen looked comfortable on Saturday as he went on win the second sprint of the season. Although he did complain about the tyres but it seemed like the problem wasn’t that big a one. Unfortunately, due to cooler temperatures on Sunday, it was a different ball game altogether.

This gave that opening to the two Ferraris to pounce on but sadly, it didn’t completely go their way. Although Leclerc went on to win the race, Carlos Sainz couldn’t finish the race after an engine blowout, eventually leading to the car being on fire. It was an uncomfortable moment for everyone to see and Sainz after the race said that the help after the incident arrived late.

But, now he has come to clarified his comments. Carlos said, “I can understand why they wrote it because I guess what I said after the race felt like a criticism to them.”

“I didn’t intend at all [for it] to come out as criticism. Because I am the first one that always speaks very highly about marshals and the heroes that they are and the way they volunteer to be in these kind of situations and protect us.

“I never wanted to make it sound like a criticism to anyone. I just wanted to make sure that it was analysed and see where we can do better next time. Because it wasn’t a comfortable moment in the car.”

We understand Carlos Sainz’s comments about help coming late because it was definitely late than usual. On the other hand, it’s difficult to criticize the marshals as they only act upon race control’s orders.
