“I enjoyed seeing Max lap Lewis Hamilton”: Jos Verstappen

Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton

Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton fought like cats and dogs for that world championship throughout the length of the last season. Last season was for the history books after seeing what transpired last year. We saw the world title being decided on literally the last lap of the race which saw Max Verstappen clinch it against the seven time world champion, Lewis Hamilton, in the most controversial of circumstances.

A lot has already been written about the controversy around that decision about Michael Masi. But what that did was it overshadowed the quality of racing that we saw between the duo. Nobody could predict who was going to win the world championship going into the last race of the season. That’s the kind of rivalry Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton shared for the best part of a season.

We all thought that we would see both of them battle it out this year around too keeping in mind how strongly both Mercedes and Red Bull finished the year. It has been anything but that. While Max Verstappen and Red Bull have gone on their merry ways to chase yet another title, Mercedes has struggled. Lewis Hamilton hits yet another low this year when he was lapped by his arch rival and nemesis, Max Verstappen.

One person who was elated after that event was Max Verstappen’s dad, Jos Verstappen. Jos could not hold back his excitement and was quick to express it. He said, “After what happened last year, I enjoyed seeing Max lap Hamilton.”

“Hamilton really had a tough time, whereas his team-mate George Russell seemed to be more balanced. It’s not often you have the opportunity to lap a Mercedes.”

Talking about his son, he said, “Max had an excellent weekend at Imola. I found him incredibly strong. He didn’t make a single mistake, was solid and completely in control,” as reported by planetf1.

What happened at the Imola GP was embarrassing for Lewis Hamilton in simple, plain terms. This is unchartered territory for the seven time world champion and he would be looking for a response from Mercedes before the Miami GP.
