“I expect to see him at McLaren” : Ralf Schumacher is convinced Oscar Piastri will not be joining Alpine

With the official statement that Fernando Alonso is moving to Aston Martin, Alpine’s Oscar Piastri appears to be a foregone conclusion. Ralf Schumacher, on the other hand, is highly sceptical that the team would benefit from doing do so.
Piastri could not have made a stronger case for a race seat in Formula 1 after winning European Formula Renault in 2019 and FIA Formula 3 in his debut season in 2020 before winning Formula 2 on his first attempt last season. However, there was simply no space for the Alpine junior driver in the team’s roster for 2022.

Alpine, according to Schumacher, would be better off with a more experienced pilot like Alonso. As a result, he considers bringing Piastri to the team a dangerous move. “The pressure [on Alpine] is increasing. We are talking about a factory team that has been investing a lot of money in Formula One for years, but has not had enough success,” said Schumacher.
According to Schumacher, the French team requires expertise and would be foolish to sign a rookie. “As a young driver, he is too big a risk,” mentioned the former F1 driver. Furthermore, he believes Piastri will eventually wind up somewhere else. Indeed, Schumacher believes the young driver is fated for McLaren.
When asked about Piastri’s future with the team before Alonso’s decision to leave, Alpine team principal Otmar Szafnauer said Alpine was willing to take their time to determine the best possibility for him and the team.
