Fernando Alonso has been having a stellar season so far. Having already scored a podium in 3 out of the 4 races that have taken place this season, the Spaniard sits comfortably at P3 in the standings. His performance at Baku was also incredible considering the fact that Aston Martin was having issues with the DRS throughout the weekend. With a string of good luck, they didn’t occur during the race.

Fernando Alonso got 4th place in Baku while his teammate Lance Stroll got 7th. Compared to the team’s pace last year, there has been a tremendous increase in performance and consistency. Nando himself didn’t shy out on providing Lance with all the help that he needed during the Baku race weekend. The reason being that he wanted to prepare Stroll to “lead the team for the next 10-15 years.”

When Fernando Alonso was first announced as an Aston Martin driver, many thought that a rift would be created between him and the Strolls. However, the exact opposite seems to have happened as the relationship between both the parties has been phenomenally well so far. The could possibly be due to the fact that Alonso’s expectations over the car’s performance have been exceeded as he is getting results for the team.

In an interview, here is what Fernando Alonso had to say about his relationship with Lance Stroll so far in the season. “We talk a lot during the weekend, already from Thursday – what we both felt here in the past, in traffic what we will do, what will be the plan for each of the cars,” he said. “If we feel something in the car during the race that we didn’t speak about and there’s something new that can help the other car, normally we communicate to the team,” he continued.

“Yeah, it has been like this. I know that I will be in the sport for a few more years but not many, and he will lead the team for the next 10 or 15 years, so I hope I can help Lance in the next few years,” Fernando stated. The Spaniard is doing everything he can to prepare Stroll for the future. He has also tipped Lance as a future world champion.

Fernando Alonso has had some vastly experienced teammates compared to Stroll all throughout his career in the pinnacle of motorsport. Some prime examples being Lewis Hamilton at McLaren and Esteban Ocon at Alpine. However, cooperating and working with Lance Stroll for the betterment of the team on an overall basis seems to be working.
