“I hope it’s not dead,” Zak Brown supports Andretti Global’s F1 entry despite all the resistance
Zak Brown and Andretti
McLaren CEO, Zak Brown, has had Andretti Global’s back ever since they publicly admitted to their intention to be part of the F1 family. But, unfortunately, it seems like he’s one of the very few people to be supporting this move as most of the other teams have rejected this idea. This news caught fire after when Michael Andretti, son of Mario Andretti, officially submitted the required paperwork to the governing body.
There is yet to be a response from the FIA as it continues to deliberate on the possibility of an eleventh team entering the fray. There are multiple reasons behind the FIA not accepting Andretti’s bit, but the one that stands out is the fact that with an entry of a new team, all the other teams will have to give a share of their profits, which looks pretty unlikely for the time being.
The alternative to this problem is that Andretti Global pays an amount of $200million as an anti-dilution fee in order to compensate the other teams for the extra prize money they will be taking home. This is the law for the entry of a new F1 team given in the ‘Concorde Agreement‘. But this has also been opposed by Mercedes’ team Principal, Toto Wolff, saying keeping in mind that how much the existing teams have already invested, the new team should add some value to the sport and not just bring in the money.
Zak Brown openly backs Andretti Global’s entry into F1 after resistance from other other teams
Amidst all the resistance, Zak Brown has come to the rescue for Andretti Global. He has supported their entry, saying, “I hope it’s not dead; I don’t think it’s dead. But it certainly seems like it’s meeting a lot of resistance.”
“I wouldn’t want to comment on what I think the right number is. But what I would say is the value of an F1 franchise from when the Concorde Agreement was signed [in 2020] to now — it’s grown rapidly.”
“Ultimately, it’s up to F1 to decide what the right number to buy in is, but what an F1 team was worth three years ago — it’s significantly more today.”
Zak Brown has backed his fellow American, Michael Andretti, who faces a lot of resistance as he tries to make his way into via his team, Andretti Global.
