Sergio Perez with teammate Max Verstappen after the sprint race

Red Bull and Sergio Perez must be delighted with what went down at the sprint race in Imola. The Mexican had a half decent qualifying due to which he started from P7 for the sprint race. The start might not have the best of ones for Max Verstappen but the end was picture perfect for Red Bull as Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez secured P1 and P2 dissected by the championship leader, Charles Leclerc.

It was start to dream of for the Sergio Perez as he had made up two places going into the second corner with Daniel Ricciardo being his last victim. The Red Bull of Sergio Perez was flying around the corners. But the different was one DRS detection zone on the straight. Sergio Perez took full advantage of the situation as he breezed past both Kevin Magnussen and Lando Norris later on in the sprint.

This could make it really interesting for Ferrari and Charles Leclerc who is sandwiched between the two Red Bul. The intent has already been laid down by Sergio Perez even before the race day. He said, “I hope that tomorrow we can attack Leclerc together and celebrate a one-two, even if the Tifosi here probably won’t like it.”

The message has been loud and clear. Both Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen have to attack Ferrari following their challenging and slow start to the season which handed over the initiative to Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz early on in the season. But, this could be a turnaround of sorts if the two Red Bulls can finish ahead of Ferrari.

Sergio Perez sounded confident after the race. He said, “I think it was important to minimise qualifying from yesterday. Today we managed to recover and I think we are in a great position for tomorrow,” as reported by gpfans.

This is an ideal platform for Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez to launch attack on Charles Leclerc. It would hurt Charles Leclerc and Mattia Binotto to be defeated by Red Bull in their own backyard. But a lot can change on race day. So, let’s see what happens.
