Trackside penalty has become more of a farce ever since about forty penalties were given for violation of the trackside limits in the Austrian Grand Prix a week ago. After that, Max Verstappen spoke out about how he felt that the FIA’s extreme policing of every single minute violations of the regulations is almost like a “joke”. In Spielberg, all the three podium winners were also summoned by the stewards and charged for violation of rules. As a result, the drivers have had to pay a helty penalty fee.
Now, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has also decided to weigh in on the subject. He has expressed concerns that the FIA zeroing in on the rules is causing the racers a lot of inconvenience during the Grand Prix and this will only worsen in the upcoming races.
Red Bull Boss Christian Horner discusses random trackside violation penalties by the FIA
Christian Horner raises questions on whether the FIA will take it up a notch to penalize drivers for trackside violations in the upcoming French Grand Prix at Circuit de Paul Ricard.
The topic about the FIA rampantly penalizing drivers for trackside violations arose after the Austrian Grand Prix, with many of the racers voicing their concerns over such needlessly stringent action. While speaking about this, Christian Horner said, “The problem is the nature of the circuit [Red Bull Ring], it invites the drivers to use the track limits and of course, there were many, many drivers that were infringing that over the weekend [in Austria].”
He finally said, “My concern isn’t so much here. I think [Paul] Ricard will be a bigger issue. There is genuine time gain to be had and you’ve got acres of Tarmac there so it’s just inviting you to run offline.”
