“I thought Ferrari ran out of ways to make Leclerc lose…”: Former Ferrari Boss severely criticizes the team’s flawed tactics at Hungaroring
Ferrari's pit stop confusion at the Monaco GP
To the great disappointment of the Tifosi, Ferrari totally botched their run at the Hungarian Grand Prix by almost giving away the guaranteed podium spots for Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. The Scuderia had performed well throughout the weekend in Budapest but in the end, they fell through because of strategical errors once more and this marked their second consecutive week of near-misses as Leclerc was robbed of yet another podium finish after last week’s French Grand Prix.
The F1 pundits dove into dissecting the Ferrari tactics after the race at Hungaroring was over to check why the Scuderia performed so poorly even after getting both their driver a top 3 start at the beginning of the GP. And many of the motorsports enthusiasts could not help bring up the fact that Ferrari had failed completely when Red Bull achieved a perfect ending to their race with a victory for Max Verstappen, even though the reigning World Champion started tenth on the grid.
In the midst of all the discussion, former Ferrari and Williams Boss Peter Windsor shared his take on what went wrong with the Scuderia’s tactics during the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Ferrari Boss blasts the team for making Charles Leclerc lose out on podium finish
While Ferrari started the race at a favorable position, the Maranello outfit made some grave mistakes with the tyre strategy for both their racers. Even though Ferrari was being touted as the fastest team during the Free Practice sessions on Friday, their performance was concerning during the Main Race at Hungaroring where Charles Leclerc fell to P6 even after starting third on the grid.
As of now, many F1 fans are of the opinion that Ferrari is not being able to crack the correct strategy for their race even after having such a great pairing of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz with a near-perfect racecar–the F1-75. Speaking of Ferrari’s below-expectations race, Peter Windsor said, “I just thought Ferrari had run out of creative ways to make Charles Leclerc lose another Grand Prix, but magically they found another method.”
The British F1 expert continued, “It was on lap 39. Max Verstappen’s crew felt there was more rain was in the air, but brought him back into the pit lane for a new set of medium tyres. George Russell responded immediately. You would think that Charles, with at least five laps left in his tyres after the strong first stint he drove, would be in better shape.”
