Lewis Hamilton has recently admitted that he believes Mercedes can win a Grand Prix in the remaining 11 races of the 2022 Formula One season.
Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes struggled immensely in the first half of the season where they were nowhere near Ferrari and Red Bull. Moreover, it was only in the last few races that the team was able to string up good performances on the back of a W13 that is constantly showing signs of movement.
The personnel at the factories are hard at work in order to improve the car and Hamilton after seeing the improvement believes that they have a chance of winning a Grand Prix this season.
Hamilton while dwelling on the season said, “Earlier this year, [I] definitely wasn’t sure we’d ever get a win in this car.”
“Obviously, that’s not the way we like to think, but it was feeling like, ‘Jesus, it’s a long, long way to catch everyone up, knowing the progress everyone makes.”
Hamilton further added, “[It’s] definitely [been] hugely encouraging,” the seven-time World Champion acknowledged.”
“Particularly [because] for a long, long time, we would make changes and not see it do what [we thought] it was going to do or improve the car.”
Lewis Hamilton feels Mercedes has been strong in the last few races
The upgrades that the team has brought in the last few races have worked well on the W13 and Lewis Hamilton is pleased with the direction that the team is heading in at the moment.
While dwelling deeper into the team’s performance so far, Hamilton said, “It was a good step in Barcelona, but then we had several difficult races following it.”
“Then we just had these last [few] races which were quite strong, and that’s really encouraged us that we’re moving in the right direction, that there really is potential in the car.”
Hamilton and Russell have both been on the podium this season for the Silver arrows and the former 7-time Champion feels that the next for them is going to be to grab a race win this year.
“With a little bit more digging, a little bit more hard work, hopefully, we can get a bit closer to having a chance of winning a race.”
“So I truly believe we can get a race win this year.”
The 37-year-old is well aware that in terms of out and out pace, they are way behind Red Bull and Ferrari but has shown faith in the personnel at the team to keep improving the car and hopes that it will ultimately help him and Russell in landing a race win for the team this year.
It has been rumored that Mercedes is set to bring one of its best upgrades in the next two races and given the improvement that the team has shown so far, it will be fascinating to see how the team will perform during the races that are left before the start of the summer break.
