With the announcement of Sergio Perez‘s contract renewal with Red Bull following his amazing victory in the Monaco Grand Prix, the unsaid truth that has been going around in everyone’s mind is that this news has put an end to the possibility of Pierre Gasly coming back to Red Bull in the near future. The French racer, who started driving beside Max Verstappen in Red Bull back in 2019, but was shockingly demoted to Toro Rosso for being unable to deliver results for the Milton-Keynnes-based team.

Now, Pierre Gasly made up his mind to bring back his previous form after being demoted to Toro Rosso. In 2020, when Scuderia Toro Rosso got rebranded to AlphaTauri, Pierre Gasly became one of the most consistent racers as he was almost always in the top 10 drivers amongst the racers. He got a blazing victory for the team in Monza, and that made it all the more apparent that Pierre has improved a lot since his time in Red Bull.

But Pierre was never summoned back to Red Bull, despite his repeated statements conveying his wishes to return to his previous team. Now that Sergio has been retained by Red Bull as their driver till 2025, it has become a stark truth that Pierre Gasly is not returning to Red Bull Racing at any point in the near future.

Charles Leclerc was stuck in Sauber for a year before he made his move to take Kimi Raikkonen’s place in Scuderia Ferrari–F1’s oldest and most successful team–in the year 2019. The racer has drawn a parallel between Pierre Gasly and himself, after he saw the new that Sergio Perez has been renewed for two more years at Red Bull, even though Gasly had been waiting in the wings to pounce at the second seat at Red Bull, should Perez leave at the end of 2023.

As the situation has become clear now that the executives at Red Bull do not want Pierre to take the place of Sergio Perez anytime in the near future, Charles Leclerc has shared his thoughts on the Frenchman’s situation. He said, “It’s not easy [what he’s going through]. But thanks to Red Bull, that’s why I arrived in F1. I understand what Pierre is going through, I experienced something quite similar.”
