Red Bull driver, Sergio Perez has high ambitions to win his first Formula 1 world title. The 33-year-old has the machinery and the talent to fulfil his dream. The Mexican driver has 24 podiums and 5 wins in F1. He is rightfully known as the “King of Street Circuits“. Perez won his fifth race at the Saudi Arabian GP from the pole position. However, there is one thing Perez needs to watch out for, it is his hungry teammate, Max Verstappen

It usually isn’t easy for Max Verstappen‘s teammates, there is immense pressure for them to perform well. But Perez has proved himself worthy of his seat at Red Bull. The Mexican is also known as the “The Minister of Defence.” This goes back to the 2021 Abu Dhabi GP where Perez defended against Lewis Hamilton and helped Verstappen win his second world title. There are also several other occasions where Perez displayed his skill.

It is common for Formula 1 drivers to share an image and their thoughts on social media after the race. As he won his fifth race at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Perez took to Twitter and posted a message.

It was tougher than I thought, but in the end, I’m happy to get my fifth victory in F1. Very happy with the result of the team. We are going to keep pushing very hard, and I want to be champion.

However, Sergio Perez hastily deleted his tweet and posted the same without the last line, “I want to be champion.” This hints at the tension going on within the team. During the last few laps at the Saudi Arabian GP, there was intense communication between Perez and the Red Bull pit wall. Perez wanted to get the fastest lap but so did Verstappen. The Mexican was initially told to push and then was asked to maintain the pace. In the end, Verstappen earned the bonus point.

Last season at the Brazilian GP,  Verstappen was asked to give back the sixth place to Perez and help with his driver’s championship. But the Dutchman refused. Verstappen told his team not to ask him of such things as he had his reasons. After the race, Perez said, “It shows who he is”, and there was tension within the team.

There was another incident during the qualifying at the 2022 Monaco GP, there were speculations that Perez crashed on purpose to get the pole. Moving on to the 2023 season, the Mexican wants to start all over. He wants to fight for the title. It is unclear why Sergio Perez deleted his original tweet. But, his intention remains the same, to be a champion.
