“I was going to be a bus driver,” Max Verstappen narrates how he always wanted to prove his father wrong

Jos Verstappen and Max Verstappen
Max Verstappen is one of the most prominent names in Formula One and through sheer hard work and determination has managed to establish himself as one of the greats to ever step foot into the world of F1 racing.
However, in his early years as a young driver who was doing his trade in junior categories, Verstappen has recently indicated that instead of getting support from his father, he always received harsh comments that forced him in developing a strong mentality.
Recently while talking about his treatment by Jos Verstappen, Max said, “My dad never said I was going to be a World Champion. He was always the opposite. He would tell me I was going to be a bus driver or a truck driver.”
Max believes because of the relentless criticism that he received in his early years, he had the zeal of proving his father wrong no matter what.
Moreover, it can be said that Jos’s way of being a strict dad to Max has somewhat paid a dividend as today he has become one of the most prolific drivers on the Formula One grid.

He is the standard against whom the rest of the drivers are compared and so far there have been only a few drivers who have been able to match the level of skills that Max has mastered over the years.

Max Verstappen became World Champion in 2021

Max Verstappen becomes an absolute beast whenever he gets behind the wheel of the Red Bull and an example, last year he was seen fighting tooth and nail with former 7-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton.
Their rivalry was one for the ages and it was amazing to see that Max was not only able to keep up with Hamilton, but was also able to outperform him during the season on many occasions.
Max has developed a “never give up” mentality and some of the credit for it goes to Jos Verstappen. His ways of handling Max may have been unorthodox but they are now the 24-year-old bigtime.

During the current season as well when Ferrari was ahead of Red Bull after the early rounds, Max never lost hope and now after 10 races into the 2022 season, has got a strong grip over the Drivers world title.
