“I was just a bit unlucky with my soft tyre runs in FP1 and FP2,” Max Verstappen optimistic despite tricky start to the Azerbaijan weekend

Max Verstappen has shared his opinion on the first practice day of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and has indicated that he is feeling positive despite finishing both FP1 and FP3 in the third position.
Max Verstappen’s Friday outing was not smooth sailing as during the FP1 session the Dutchman was dealing with DRS issues that cost him time during the initial stages of FP2 as he was stuck in the garage with mechanics working on his RB18.
But despite a stop-start to proceedings during FP2 Max was able to put a solid lap in that was good enough for P3 and after the session, while dwelling on his outing Verstappen said, “[I was] just a bit unlucky with my soft tyre runs in FP1 and FP2.”
“[I] caught a yellow flag so I had to back out but, overall, I think we look quite decent.“
Max Verstappen is optimistic about his chances during the Azerbaijan weekend and following today’s outing is confident about his chances going into tomorrow’s qualifying weekend.

Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc have been at each other’s throats throughout the current season for Red Bull and Ferrari and Max is aware that in Azerbaijan also they are going to be their main rivals.
Max’s teammate Perez was able to set the pace in FP1 whereas Charles Leclerc was able to put his F1-75 in pole position during FP2.
Max is well aware of the type of challenge that Ferrari poses and has said, “[It] looks like Ferrari’s quite quick over one lap again.”
“Long run [pace] looks a little bit more even, so that’s positive.”
“For once, it seems like on a street circuit we can get the tyres to work over one lap, [for] everyone, it seems. Because all the time you try in the second lap, you already lose performance.”
“But yeah, overall I think not a bad day, [we] just need to fine tune a few things.”
Given all that has happened between Ferrari and Red Bull during the 2022 season, tomorrow’s Qualifying is going to be a must-see affair for all Formula One fans. It is going to be close at the top and will be interesting to see who would be able to come out on top.
