“I would fire all the strategy people,” Marc Surer unleashes by calling Ferrari strategists a ‘DISGRACE’
The Ferrari pit crew
It seems like Marc Surer has had enough of what’s going on with Ferrari as gives a pretty harsh assessment of their run so far. When we talk about the two teams that have neck and neck throughout the course of the season but the score card shows otherwise. The Italian Giants were 97 points going into the summer break with Max Verstappen enjoying an 80 point lead over Charles Leclerc.
This has sparked a debate in the F1 community as to how has Ferrari found itself in this position. Yes, there have been mistakes made by the two drivers but that doesn’t count for the majority of the points lost by the duo. Out of the two, Charles Leclerc has been more unlucky. The Monegasque driver looked in control in a lot of races but his race was eventually compromised after Ferrari took a terrible decision.
It all started with Monaco when Charles Leclerc was leading his home race but finished 4th after Ferrari called him in for a pit stop. It was a last minute call and Charles had to pay the price by waiting in the pits. We saw the same in Britain and Hungary. What makes it worse is the fact that Red Bull and Max Verstappen have been absolutely flawless when it has come to execution of the plans.
Marc Surer lays into Ferrari’s strategists for their ‘stragedies’ off-late
This has made a lot of pundits across the board really angry and Marc Surer being one of them. Surer laid into the strategists at Ferrari by saying, “I would fire all the strategy people. You can only shake your head that they make the wrong decision time after time.“
”Someone at the top has to say something. ‘What are we actually doing? We have the fastest car?'”
But Mattia Binotto is still backing his team. He said, “Sometimes you make a mistake, sometimes the others are doing mistakes; maybe we are not on the line so much. It’s not only Inaki [Rueda, Ferrari chief strategist], the entire team is great. I am fully supporting them, because I trust them.”
Marc Surer has got it spot on when it comes to criticizing the team. We have seen Ferrari time and again failing to deliver during clutch moments, which has costed them a handful of points.
