“I’d probably say Austin,” George Russell feels Mercedes can trump Red Bull and Ferrari during the United States GP

George Russell is having a fine season for the Mercedes F1 team, and while downplaying the team’s chances during the upcoming Singapore Grand Prix has indicated that the Brackley-based team can score its first win of the season in Austin.
Mercedes has been on the back foot all season long compared to Red Bull and Ferrari, but as the races have gone by, they have improved as a team and have shown that they are a threat when it comes to racing on high-downforce circuits.
Moreover, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell are slowly closing the gap to Ferrari, and after 16 rounds, are only 35 points behind the Maranello-based team.
Russell was recently asked to name a track where Mercedes can score a win in the remaining races of the season, and while responding to the query, the Brit said, “I’d probably say maybe Austin. I think Austin could be a circuit that suits us better – but I truly don’t know.”
“Singapore could be interesting, but historically it’s a circuit where Mercedes have struggled a little bit, and we know at street circuits this year we haven’t fared so well.”
“[I’m] not too sure, there are no standouts that really spring to mind.”
George Russell is optimistic about the remaining races of the 2022 F1 season
There are only six races left in the 2022 F1 season and the Silver Arrows have so far, not managed to win even a single race which comes as a huge surprise, considering the lofty standards that they have set in the recent past.
Moreover, if Mercedes is not able to secure a win in the remaining races, then it would be for the first time since 2011 that they would miss out on scoring at least one race win in a season.
George Russell knows that Lewis Hamilton has a habit of winning at Mercedes and while talking about what the team needs to do in order to get what they desire, Russell added, “I think as a team we’re making a huge amount of progress at the moment and understanding the car more and more.”
“Hopefully as we develop the car further, we can take some further gains.”
George Russell is hopeful of the Silver Arrows’ chances during the business end of the current campaign, however, Ferrari and especially Red Bull have proved too difficult a task for the rest of the grid, and considering this fact, can Mercedes really trump the top two teams to get the win that has eluded them so far in the season?
