With thirteen Grands Prix having already been held, and only nine races remaining in the roster, the speculations surrounding the Formula 1 calendar for the 2023 season has reached an all-time high. Now, British F1 World Champion Jenson Button has given his take on the races that should be included in the new F1 calendar to make sure the audience get some thrilling Grands Prix next year.

The former Brawn GP racer believes the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps must continue in the future seasons. But, he is aware that there have been rumors that the FIA are trying to replace the Spa race with newer races at more street circuits.

Every year, the F1 circus moves to countries all over the world to host the extravagant Grands Prix, and for 2023, the FIA are planning for one of the biggest F1 calendars till date with 24 races in the roster. The F1 authoritative committee have been mulling over the options of Grands Prix being held at some new circuits that have not hosted any F1 race in the past. It has already been confirmed that Las Vegas will make its F1 debut next year, and South Africa might also return to the calendar.

But Jenson Button is concerned that classic F1 races like the Belgian GP will be discontinued amidst the FIA’s attempt of allowing newer circuits to hold Formula 1 Grands Prix. And thus, he voiced his opinions that the Spa-Francorchamps circuit must appear in the F1 calendar for next year.

As an F1 veteran, Jenson Button, like many other Formula 1 racers, has admitted that he always looked forward to racing in Spa at the historic Belgian Grand Prix. Even now, the former World Champion waits the whole year for the F1 paddocks to visit Belgium for a thrilling race there. But he has received word that the Belgian GP might be discontinued amid contract issues as the FIA have bidders who are ready to give them higher amounts if they are allowed to host Grands Prix at their new circuits.

Speaking on the reason why the Belgium Grand Prix should be retained in the F1 calendar for next year, Jenson Button said, “If Spa is not on the calendar, I will be very upset. It is one of the best circuits in the world , the races are incredible and the drivers and teams love to go.”

He continued, “We know that Formula 1 is entertainment and a certain television program has made it very famous in the United States, which is great for the sport. But we have to make sure we keep the racing exciting and go to circuits that give us great races to see the drivers happy. I like the mix of having street circuits and old school circuits, but we can’t go to all the city centers just because of the location.”
