Earlier this year, three-time World Champion from Brazil, Nelson Piquet, came under fire for his racist remarks against Lewis Hamilton. And now, the 70-year-old is back at making the news headlines, because of his questionable political alignment. The former racer was reportedly seen participating in coup activities with other ‘Bolsonaristas’, that is, the followers of Brazil’s recently-usurped President Jair Bolsonaro.

Ushering in a new era in the South American country, the elections in Brazil saw a ground-breaking moment as far-right President Jair Bolsonaro got voted out of office by the public as Workers’ Party candidate Lula won by a narrow margin with 50.9% of the votes. The supporters of Bolsonaro are not happy with the results of the poll, and have already started holding massive protests in demand of Lula stepping down from his duties. And among those protesters, there was Piquet, as seen in a video shared by Flavio Gomez.

In the recent video of Nelson Piquet that has surfaced on the internet, he said, “Let’s get this motherf***er Lula out.” This shows that the former World Championship winner has some strong feelings against Lula being the new President of the country. And he has been a supporter of Jair Bolsonaro since many years. In one of his interviews, Nelson Piquet had said about Bolsonaro, “I became a fan of his. I met him, he invited me to lunch and we hit it off. I’ve never been involved in politics in my life, today I’m Bolsonaro to death.”

In other news, the political unrest that has arisen in Brazil owing to the results of the Presidential elections has made it very difficult to hold the F1 Grand Prix that is scheduled to take place at the Autódromo Jose Carlos Pace. But as of yet, no confirmed news about the matter has been revealed, and the Brazil GP is still on, as per this season’s calendar.
