Alpine F1 driver Fernando Alonso has always rated Max Verstappen as one of the best talents to enter the sport. Part of the reason behind it might be the amount of similarities that the Spaniard can spot between the two. For example, Max and Fernando both won back to back world championships against 7 time world champions Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher respectively.

Apart from that, both the drivers seem to have the same killer instinct when it comes to racing. Fernando Alonso has already participated in Lemans and won with Toyota Gazoo Racing. The Spaniard has won the most coveted endurance race in the world (Lemans 24hours) two times. So it’s fair to say that the current Alpine driver has plenty of experience in that category.

Max Verstappen on the other hand also has a profound love for endurance racing. The Dutch driver takes part in many virtual endurance races as he is also a part of Racing Esports team Redline Racing. Together both the parties have enjoyed a lot of success over the years. It is clear that Max love endurance racing and Fernando Alonso is all for it as he sees the two drivers partnering up someday to race at Lemans.

The Alpine driver knows that Max is looking to try out other racing categories after he mentioned that he won’t stay in F1 till his racing career comes to an end. Hence, Fernando Alonso is confident that Max Verstappen will be looking for a change of cockpit someday. In an interview with De Telegraaf, here is what the Spaniard had to say. “I know Max wants to do some endurance one day and I know he’d like to do the 24 Hours of Le Mans.”

“I’m certainly open to doing that together. I think we should give the idea a chance if we can drive for a competitive team.”
It was also put to Alonso that perhaps Max’s father, Jos, could join the duo given that line-ups for Le Mans typically comprise three drivers. “His father for Le Mans? At the moment, I prefer Max,” said the 41-year-old. “But I also have a lot of respect for Jos. He could develop the role of team principal!”

At just the age of 25, Max Verstappen already has world championships in his bag. This is a testament to the driving abilities that the Dutch driver holds. With his contract with Red Bull Racing ending in 2028, there are many more years left for the 2 time world champion to think about joining another racing category. Fernando Alonso and Max could without a doubt take part in Lemans during the F1 season.

Can Max Verstappen ever take the ‘Triple Crown’?

If you are a racing nut like us, you must be aware of the term ‘Triple Crown’. It is the most prestigious achievement that any racing driver could get. To achieve this status, one needs to win the Lemans 24 hours race, F1’s most glamorous race (Monaco GP) along with the Indy 500. Once a racing driver wins all three of these events, it is said that he or she have achieved the ‘Triple Crown’.

Fernando Alonso has attempted to win the triple crown but his Achilles heel has been the Indy 500. Having won the Monaco GP and the Lemans 24 hours race, the only thing left for the Spaniard to win was the Indy 500. The race is held at the Indianapolis speedway in the US. It is one of the most unpredictable race we have come across due to the fact that anything can happen and anyone can win the race.

However, Fernando Alonso encountered many issues with McLaren which have destroyed his dreams of achieving the ‘Triple Crown’. Although never say never cause the Spaniard is still in good shape and drives just like he did a decade ago. Max Verstappen on the other hand has already won the Monaco GP back in 2021 so all he needs to do is win the Lemans 24hrs race and the Indy 500.

If Fernando Alonso and Max Verstappen partner up in the future for the Lemans 24 hours race, there is great possibility of them winning. Drivers of their caliber are hard to find nowadays. With both the drivers having 2 world championships each, critics are predicting that the Dutch driver will have more in the future. Being just 25 years old, if Max stays in the sport then there is a great chance of the Dutch driver matching Lewis’s record and possibly even beating it.
