“I’m not here to play silly buggers, George Russell expresses his desire to emerge as a champion for Mercedes
George Russell
George Russell has had an incredible career even before joining Formula One. It was obvious that the driver was destined to do great stuff when he comes to race in the topmost tier in motorsports. Lando Norris believes that his fellow Brit’s attitude has changed ever since he switched teams this year.
After joining the sport in 2019, George Russell was a Formula 1 driver for Williams Racing for multiple years. With the team being back-markers, it was obvious that the driver was being held back by the team. For 3 years, George was racing at the back of the grid and hoping for a chance to race at the top with Charles and Lando. During the 2020 Sakhir Gp, George Russell got the chance to replace the covid ridden Hamilton and take part in the race as a Mercedes Amg driver.
If it wasn’t for the puncture and the wrong pit stop, it was clear that George Russell would have won the race. That day, he showed everyone what he was capable of. George Russell’s change of attitude and thought process is normal according to Lando Norris. He says that this is what happens when you join a bigger team with more pressure on your shoulder.
”I think every environment is different,” says George Russell
“I think every environment is different. After three years at Williams, we were obviously fighting for every single point we could. But here, it’s a different story, we’re here to win, we’re here to fight for championships,” he said.
”It puts it back on you as a driver and as an individual to sort of raise your game. I’m not here to play silly buggers, I’m here to win,” he continued.
George Russell achieved his first pole position with the team this year during the Hungarian Grand Prix. His seriousness is justified with respect to the prestigious team that he is racing for. Along with that, having Lewis Hamilton as a teammate is a very tough job which George seems to be coping well with.
