“I’m sorry to repeat this against a British driver,” Fernando Alonso issues apology to Lewis Hamilton after calling him an ‘idiot’ at Spa

The Belgian Grand Prix last weekend was an very eventful one. One such notable event that took place was Lewis Hamilton crashing into Fernando Alonso during the first lap of the race. The crash resulted in Lewis’ W13 being propelled into the air and causing significant damage to the car.

The 41 year old Spaniard was justifiably annoyed with the seven time world champion and spewed out harsh words at him during a radio message to his team. He called the 37 year old British driver an ‘idiot’ who only knew how to start in front of the grid. After backlash faced from the fans, towards Alonso’s comment being way too harsh, the Spaniard has issued an apology saying that his comments were made in the heat of the moment.

Fernando is yet to apologise to Lewis Hamilton in person and hopes to do it during the Dutch Grand Prix. The Spaniard also takes a dig at the current situation in F1 saying “And then when you say something – and I’m sorry to repeat this – against a British driver, there is huge media involvement after that. They’ve been saying a lot of things to Checo [Perez], to Carlos [Sainz], to me.

Was Fernando Alonso’s move to Aston Martin a smart one?

During the summer break Fernando Alonso rocked the world of Formula 1 when he announced he would be leaving Alpine at the end of the 2022 season in order to replace Sebastian Vettel at Aston Martin. This comes after Sebastian Vettel’s announcement that he would be retiring by the end of this season.

This move surprised several fans as currently Aston Martin have not been performing on par with team like Alpine or Mclaren on the grid. However, Fernando seems to see potential in the team for next year and hopes to rebuild it so that it can compete in the front of the grid with top teams like Ferrari and Mercedes.
