“I’m sure I can drive as fast as Alexander”: Nicholas Latifi puts a firm end to rumors about him leaving Williams

For Williams driver Nicholas Latifi, the all-new 2022 season of Formula 1 has not been going well, as he has been lagging at the back of the pack in his Williams FW44 ever since the start of this year. Having scored zero points till now in what is Latifi’s third year in F1, the drivers’ fans are now worried he might have to pack his bags and depart from the UK-based team by the end of this year.

In Bahrain, Nicholas Latifi stood 16th in the drivers’ rankings after a poor performance in the season opener. In Jeddah, the Canadian’s car broke down and he suffered a DNF. In the next two races in Australia and Imola, Latifi’s new teammate Alex Albon has outscored him on both occasions, and he even scored one point for the team after coming tenth in the Australian GP, showing his amazing tyre management skills.

After all this, Nicholas rumored departure from Williams has put more pressure on the racer, but he has said in his current interview with Le Journal de Montreal that he is not concerned with these rumors at all, and he only wishes to put his best efforts into the upcoming races to improve his performance and gain some point for his team.

In his debut year in Williams, Alex Albon has already made enough headway that he is inching close to a points finish in every race, but Nicholas Latifi is still struggling to get settled in his new car. Naturally, a question of comparison between the two co-drivers has already started doing the rounds amongst the motorsport enthusiasts, and they think Latifi’s chances of staying at Williams are getting slimmer by the day. If some reports are to be believed, Williams might be considering Oscar Piastri for a 2023 seat at Williams, if not earlier.

As the FIA has issued regulations for an entirely new car this year, there are a lot of technicalities that the Canadian has to get used to, before he can start scoring points for his team. Speaking on the topic of his probable departure from Williams, Nicholas Latifi has said, ”You shouldn’t pay attention to everything that is written about me.”

He also said, ”It’s a matter of confidence. I’m sure I can drive as fast as Alexander, but he has adapted faster to this new car.” On the other hand, Jost Capito, the Team Principal at Williams Racing, has also discarded these rumors.
