Max Verstappen came back from 10th on the grid to unexpectedly win his 28th race of his career. We know the Dutchman is an incredibly talented driver, who is capable of achieving the impossible on the race track. But, to win a race from 10 at Hungaroring, a circuit which doesn’t present a driver with a lot of chances to overtake, was something which looked a step too far for even the mighty Max Verstappen.

But, it will be a tad bit unfair to give all the credit to the reigning world champion as Red Bull played a major role in his win. Hungaroring was definitely a circuit which suited Ferrari more with their high downforce specifications and what made matters for the team from Milton Keynes was the fact that Max Verstappen faced engine issues forcing to start from P10 while his arch rival, Charles Leclerc, started from P3.

Of course, it would have been foolish to rule the reigning world champion out but he had a mountain to climb. But, if he had to win, Red Bull had to get the strategy spot on and that’s exactly what they did. It was imperative to call Max for his pitstops at the right time, choose the right compound of tyres and be proactive or else they could have also faced the brunt of a wrong decision just like Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc did.

Felipe Massa has been fascinated to see how the duo have worked in tandem. Talking to SkySports, the Brazilian talked about their strong relationship. He said, “Am very impressed [with Max]. I was already very impressed last year. If you compare the last qualifying, he qualified a second ahead of Perez.

In the end everything is perfect for him and the team to take the second title. And the team deserves it too.

They have a very competitive car, a fast car, but in the race it is the best car in terms of how you use the tyres.”

Max Verstappen had been on the brink to show the world his full potential but for one reason or the other just couldn’t do it. But, after winning his first championship, he looks like the complete package and will be hard to beat.
