The reverberations of Ferrari’s fall in Budapest are not going away. In a race that the men from Maranello were anticipating with apprehension on the eve, certain about being able to take a double weight, Carlos Sainz Jr.’s P4 and Charles Leclerc’s P6 left an unhappy conclusion to the race.

The end result was unrest, particularly among aficionados and outside watchers, with the Monegasque going from a potential win, until he stayed on track with yellow tyres that worked brilliantly on his F1-75, to defeat when the strategists made the decision to go against the usual by choosing for the hard compound.

At the end of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto found himself in the midst of a raging storm for yet another huge blunder this season that hampered Leclerc’s race, but in the post-race discussion, he desired to safeguard the team and provide a positive assessment of the first half of the championship

“The balance of this first part of the season for Ferrari can only be positive. In the 13 races so far we have failed only one race. In others we have not won for various reasons. At times they have also been frustrating, with disappointment, and we deserved much better results, but in 12 out of 13 races we were always there to fight for the victory,” said the Swiss team principal.

Binotto added: “I think the balance can only be positive, even if Hungary’s disappointment remains and we will have to understand how to intervene to ensure that it does not happen again. The objectives remain unchanged. We want to be competitive in every race and try to win every race. We will return to racing after the summer break with only one desire: to try to win every race and take home as many victories as possible.”

Leclerc showed up in Hungary 63 points behind defending Formula One World Champion Max Verstappen, and by the end of the race, the gap had grown to 80 points. Ferrari  on the other hand, remains in second place in the Constructors, but the disparity to Red Bull is now 97 points, with an extremely challenging Mercedes 30 points behind.
